GIRL’S-HIGH

April 24th, 2006 by Gunlex

The intro scenes are random and don’t relate to the following episode in any way, but they have been pretty funny. Although this episode wasn’t my favourite, it was still hilarious. One of the best lines in this episode was in a scene between Kyoko and Akari while they were trying to throw balls into a basket. The line came so naturally from Akari that it made it funnier than if it had been said by any of the other characters. As much as I like Akari, her costume gags are beginning to feel a bit overused. If the costumes had some actual relation to the context it may be funny, but for now they’ve been quite out of place in my opinion. Ayano acts no different than before, but she had some pretty hilarious scenes. Due to her period, Yuma was pretty much left out of this episode. Since she’s supposed to be more of the sporty type I thought we would get to learn more about her this week. For now the girls seem to complement each other really nicely, but I would still like to get to know the more neglected girls such as Yuma, Kyoko, and Ikue.

I was glad to see that a lot happened in this episode. The series didn’t really start a plot until this episode. Whether or not the plot is any good is a whole other matter. It’s far from original and it doesn’t feel all that great just yet. It definately could have been worse though. Now that we have an idea of where the series is heading we can enjoy the series a bit more. Once again we don’t get to see much of Eruru, just like the previous episode. I really do hope they pick up the pace with the story and character development for this series though. It isn’t exactly boring me too much right now, but with so many other series out this season I could make better use of my time if the series remains at this current level of entertainment. I don’t want to have to drop this series.

ARIA The NATURAL 4

In this episode we get to see how the postal system works. This series can seriously make anything entertaining. It was only shown briefly, but we got to see Akari’s signature backwards rowing. It has been a long time since we’ve seen that. I had almost forgotten all about her unique technique. During the wedding scene we got to see Akira and Aika dressed up, which I thought was a nice bonus. It’s not everyday we get to see them wear something other than their uniforms. Their gondola was decorated for the occasion as well, which we haven’t seen before. While watching the last scene between Akari and the postman I couldn’t help but think about Aika’s infamous “hazukashii serifu kinshi” line. It appears that the next episode will be split into two shorter stories.

School Rumble 2 Gakki 4

Now this was the kind of episode I have been expecting from this series. This is by far the best episode out of these first 4 episodes. All the “short stories” in this episode were great. I wish they had shown us a few more of those. I at least wanted to see Tenma’s story as well. Out of the ones they did show however, the “Glass Mask” parody was probably my favourite. Eri had a decent amount of scenes in this episode too, which I thought was great. I just love seeing scenes between Eri and Harima since they’re always so funny. Even though the “short stories” were good, the scene when they went to the bath house was the most hilarious. The long-awaited cutlural festival begins next week so I hope it will at least be as funny as this episode.

Ergo Proxy 8

Just when I thought I was starting to understand what was happening they threw us an episode like this. Now I’m pretty clueless as to what exactly is going on yet again. This was a pretty hectic episode. Things were moving too fast to really grasp everything that was taking place. This is the first time we get to clearly see Vincent fight another proxy. It was entertaining to watch that whole scene, but they don’t explain anything that would make us understand the reason for the event. Since we’re already a third of the way through the series, I hope they don’t take too much longer to give us answers to a lot of the unanswered questions. As much as I like a good mystery, being clueless as to how all these events are interrelated takes away from our enjoyment.

Blood+ 28

After searching for a long time Mao finally finds Kai. Considering how desperate she was to meet Kai their reunion was kind of anti-climactic. Whether or no Mao will end up staying with Saya and the others remains to be seen. They want Mao to return, but removing her from the story already would make her entire trip pretty pointless. The Sifu target Saya once again. It looks like Kai may actually make a difference between the conflict between these two groups. As much as I want to see Elaine survive, I have my doubts about it based partly on the preview. I hope the outcome will be good, but I wouldn’t count on it. There’s also some new information that were revealed thanks to Julia’s research. It may not seem all that important yet, but that information will most likely be crucial sooner or later.

Fate/stay night 16

This looks like the last time we’ll see Beserker. I really didn’t think he would be defeated this episode considering how strong he is. It was nice to see Shirou actually be useful for once. Until now I think he has been pretty useless and only ended up interfering. Something else I didn’t expect was to see Shirou take Illya into his home. This was probably the first episode where we got to see Saber show signs of jealousy. I found it to be pretty entertaining since it’s really unlike the Saber we’ve come to know. It looks like Sakura is about to play a role soon. It has been quite a long time since we had any extended scenes with her. I look forward to seeing her again.

ZEGAPAIN 3

A good portion of this episode provided plot development. Thanks to the game we have a better idea of what’s going on. Things were becoming clear until the Kyo opens the locker to find a message for him. I thought the addition of this twist was a good idea. It keeps us guessing. Just who is trying to stop Kyo and is there any truth to the final message formed from the wall? The incident with Kyo’s hand passing through the locker at the end suggests there’s more to this world than we had previously anticipated. I’m not confident in correctly guessing what exactly is the truth anymore. The twists at the end threw me off. If anything, I just want to watch on to find out what the truth is.

Ah! My Goddess Sorezore no Tsubasa 3

I thought Urd would have a bigger role in this episode based on the first few minutes. Since the second season started we haven’t seen much of Skuld or Urd. Things in the end looked as if they all worked out, but they left out the fact that they never resolved the issue with the little girl. The little girl was crying because her balloon got caught in the street light. Keiichi tried to get it back for her but ended up losing it in the end. They conveniently neglected to show us what happened with her afterwards. It’s not at all important to the story, but I just didn’t like them leaving it unresolved. Sayoko is in this episode briefly and we see that she has gotten over the events from the previous episode. It does seem like she’s not exactly the way she was in the first season. She actually shows a bit of compassion, even if it is almost completely drowned out by her pride.

Witchblade 3

This episode made some nice progress in terms of plot development. I was starting to worry that Masane would not meet up with Rihoko in this episode after seeing Rihoko get pickpocketed. I started to think it would still be a while before they would be reunited. I’m glad they’re now together again. So now that Masane has agreed to fight in exchange for living with Rihoko, the story really begins here. We have a better idea of what Masane’s fighting. There’s something really appealing about seeing Masane become so bloodthristy when the Witchblade is activated. I didn’t think they would throw in a twist like the one in the end of the episode so early on. It looks like there’s another Witchblade or something. It will be interesting to see what that’s all about.
