GIRL’S-HIGH 12 (Final)

It didn’t feel like that long ago when I first started watching this series. 3 months and 12 episodes later we’re already at the end of the series. I expected a good episode to finish it all off and I pretty much got what I wanted. They stuck with the comedy for the entire duration and there was no hint of drama like some of the other episodes. The introduction looked like a parody of “The Drifters”, which I thought they did okay with. If I’m not mistaken about this parody then I would have liked to see them do a variation of theme song for “The Drifters”. This episode has its fair share of fan service along with its signature style of humour. The scene that really stuck with me was when Yuma wasn’t able to continue giving massages. I couldn’t help but laugh when Eriko took a hold of Yuma’s bloody hand. We don’t exactly get a real conclusion to the series, but rather we see the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. On the whole, I thought this was a pretty solid episode and a satisfactory way to wrap up a series like this. There’s definately room for another season, but whether or not we will get another season remains to be seen.

When I watched the first episode of this series, I thought this was going to be one unforgettable series. To a certain extent it did live up to some of my expectations, but on the other hand I also got a taste of the unexpected. The humour they used in the series was quite different from the other comedy series in recent memory. This was what caught my attention right away. I had really high hopes for the series after watching the first two episodes. Unfortunately, they were not able to keep up with the humour I had come to love from this series. They go as far as adding in some drama, which was neither expected nor desired. The character development wasn’t all that great, but that’s something I’m willing to overlook considering it was only 12 episodes long. It would have been nice if we got to know some of the characters better though. One of the biggest annoyance I had with this series was the fairly inconsistent art. It may seem like I didn’t really like this series, but that’s not true. It is true that this series wasn’t as good as I had expected it to be based on the preliminary episodes. That’s not to say I didn’t have a good time watching this series. Not every episode was a winner, but it had enough good episodes to make me think this series was well worth watching. For people who want a comedy series that’s a little different from the usual then this may be a good candidate. It is because of some of the humour they use in this series that I cannot recommend this series to everyone that wants to watch a comedy series. I think it’s definately only appropriate for an older audience. Hopefully this won’t be the last time we’ll get to see the antics of the “Baka-Gundan”.
