Ichigo Mashimaro 12 (Final)

I can’t believe this series is over already. I was happy to see that this episode had a decent amount of its signature humour. One of the best parts of this episode was when Miu told the story of how she beat Santa Claus. It was too bad they changed the Riko-chan House part so much. I thought that part from the manga was priceless. The way they ended the episode is as close to a conclusion as we’d get to see from a series like this. With that being said, I think it was a fitting ending.

I don’t really have anything bad to say about this series. My only real complaint overall is the series was too short. I hope there will at least be another season of “Ichigo Mashimaro” in the future. Normally one would ask what did I like about a series. In this case, however, it’s more appropriate to ask what I didn’t like about it. But honestly, what is there not to like about this series? Miu’s humour was just off-the-wall and that made her a really memorable character. I think this is a good series for everyone to watch. At least for people who has a sense of humour. If you like to laugh then “Ichigo Mashimaro” is something you should definately look into.

The day has finally come. Matsuri actually said something funny. Not only was it only one line, she said something funny in two separate scenes. They changed quite a few things for the sento scene. The most notable one of course was Miu letting one rip right in the bath. I wasn’t expecting something like that at all. It’s too bad there is only one episode left. I’m going to miss Miu and her awesome sense of humour.

This week’s episode wasn’t very high on the humour scale either. Although it was still an entertaining episode overall. I thought Miu mentioning to Chika about having pride then suddently ditching her so she could ride on the bus was funny. Chika must be superhuman to be able to put up with Miu day in and day out. All 4 of them trying to hypnotize Nobue at the end was pretty cute. They sure do love cake.

I didn’t think this episode was as funny as the other ones. One reason is the lack of funny Miu lines. It was still fun to watch nevertheless. Some key parts in the dieting part of the episode were changed from the manga. Overall I think the changes made this episode’s transition smoother than it would have been if they had stuck more closely to the manga.

This episode deviates quite a bit from the manga, especially the matsuri part. I was hoping to see Miu’s Ultraman-mask scene from the manga, but they cut that out. Luckily they made up for it with their original gags. First, there’s Miu’s song in the beginning. It’s a pretty hilarious song, especially since she’s singing it and banging her recorder during a test. Then of course there’s Miu’s ninja scene. The best part of the episode was probably Miu trying to strike a deal with the guy who runs the kingyo-sukui.

Without Miu this series would probably only be mediocre. Even though Miu is the source of most of the humour in the series, there are still parts where it’s funny without her. Taking this episode as an example, I thought Ana’s video message was pretty funny. My favourite part of the episode was probably when Miu refered to Nobue and Chika as the “no boing sisters”. I found the story she made up for her summer vacation homework to be quite creative. I do wonder where her artistic talent went all of a sudden though.

Lots of Miu-goodness in this episode, from her odd questions to her drawings. Ana’s solo scene was pretty good too. It was entertaining to see her trying to pronounce Ginger Ale and have the old man from the family restaurant helping her. During the scene where they wrote down everything they wanted to say, Matsuri and Ana’s questions sounded like something Miu would ask. I thought the end of the episode was pretty clever. After failing at her own game, Miu calls Nobue on her cellphone. Watching Nobue in the convenience store with that new ringtone was hilarious.

This week is a somewhat more serious episode than all the previous ones. Of course an Ichigo Mashimaro episode wouldn’t be complete without its fair share of its trademark humour. A large portion of this episode was spent primarily on Matsuri and Ana so unfortunately it wasn’t as funny as past episodes. Luckily we still got a small dose of Miu humour. I found her crying scene in the anime to have a bigger impact than the manga. Although that part is anything but humourous, I think it was still a nice scene. It’s one of the only times where we see Miu actually be serious.

We finally get another episode of “Ichigo Mashimaro” after a 3 week break. Miu was great in this episode just like all the previous ones. It was hilarious to see Chika and Miu’s skit. Miu’s facial expression was priceless. The doctor scene was pretty funny too. The writers did a good job of mixing chapters from the manga together and adding in new scenes to make the transition from chapter to chapter look almost seamless. I thought Nobue writing “年貢米” on Miu’s head was kind of random. Although I guess it’s possible that Nobue was jokingly expecting Miu to repay her. All in all, this was another enjoyable episode. I’m looking foward to next week’s.

Just leave it up to Miu to make this into a humour-filled episode. I liked every scene she was in in this episode. From the criminal make-believe game in the beginning to asking Chika to pat her back in the end. It was pretty funny to see Ana trying to deny not being able to speak English. “Two sen-yen” Now that Nobue and possibly Chika and Miu realize the extent of Ana’s English capabilities, I wonder if they’ll play into that in the next episode.
