Kamichu! 12 (Final)

Yet another series has come to an end. This was the kind of ending I was expecting for a series like this. It took 12 episodes, but Yurie was finally able to confess to Kenji. You can see that Yurie has grown since she was able to gather the courage to confess. Not once did she use her powers. She did it all on her own. It was nice to see everyone cheering her on. I have to say I’m satisfied with how the series ended. It’s too bad this series has to end here. I enjoyed watching a series that was completely different from the other stuff this season.

The series was pretty laid back all the way through. One of the common problems with 12 to 13 episode series is we don’t get to know supporting characters very well. I thought “Kamichu!” had the same problem. We don’t know a whole lot about Matsuri, Mitsue, and Kenji. In terms of animation quality, it wasn’t all that consistent overall. Sometimes you’ll see odd-looking characters. Even with its fair share of flaws I would still recommend this series to anyone who wants to see something other than robots, giant-breasted school girls, and ninjas. The story is original and it’s refreshing to watch a series like this.

Another good episode for a good series. Although it was pretty anti-climactic for the episode right before the finale. I guess they don’t plan to end the series with a bang. My only real complaint with this episode was the animation quality. It seems to have fallen quite a bit. There was at least a scene or two where Yurie looked like E.T. (Yes, I do mean that E.T., E.T. the extraterrestrial). Besides that the rest of the episode was extermely laid-back, but still enjoyable at the same time. It’s not everyday you get to see a cat put away the dishes.

Now this is what all “Kamichu!” episodes should be like. First of all, it’s a good slice-of-life episode, overcoming obstacles many young people encounter. Then we also have some nicely presented mysticism that makes this series so unique. With only two episodes left, I think it’s safe to say we won’t witness a huge crisis for the series climax. Even if they do leave that out it will still be fitting for a series like this. If the last 2 episodes are similar to this episode, I’ll be satisfied.

There’s another guest seiyuu this week. This time it’s Kaida Yuki. As much as I like her other roles, I don’t think she was suitable for the character in this episode. The ability of the person in charge of casting is definately questionable. Besides that minor issue I think the rest of the episode held its own pretty well. Yurie is still learning about when and how she should use her powers. Normally the lack of a plot for a series would lower the overall quality of the series. Luckily in this case the discontinuous plot lines is well-suited for htis series.

Another interesting episode. I didn’t think it was as entertaining as last week’s, but this one was still pretty decent on its own. I like how the story from episode to episode is quite different from each other. It may not be intense like some of the other series airing currently, but few are this laid back and easy to watch. One thing I would like to see is more character development for Yurie’s two friends. We don’t really know all that much about them considering they play pretty big parts.

I thought this week’s episode was better than last week’s. This one was more of what I was expecting from the series. The plot may not be deep or anything, but it’s still highly enjoyable. All the features that make this series well worth watching are in this episode. In terms of character development there’s a bit of it this week. Mainly we learn about Yurie’s parents’ past. Yurie gets a new outfit as well. Whether or not it’s something she’ll keep on wearing later on in the series is anyone’s guess. Although I don’t think it’s a bad outfit I think the other one looked better.

Hirohashi Ryou has a guest role in this episode. I can’t deny that the voice was very fitting for character. At least it seems like she’s just a one-shot character so we won’t be seeing her from now on. It looked like Yurie was blushing in well over half of her appearances in this episode. As entertaining as this episode was, I was kind of hoping for more of the stuff we got in episode 1 and 2.

I liked the opening animation sequence for this episode. It was cool how they placed the credits on actual items in the animation. This was a pretty laid-back episode. It was still a good one though. We see a bit more of Yurie’s brother whom we’ve only seen briefly up to this point. Although Yurie’s out-of-body experience was quite short, it was still fun to watch her go all over town. It was refreshing to watch this when this season is filled with fan-service.

We meet Yurie’s wish helpers in this episode. I really liked Team Shiawase’s entrance, it was cute. At first I didn’t like the idea of them adding aliens in this episode. After finishing the episode I thought it worked out pretty well though. The alien’s reason for coming to Earth was totally unique in my opinion. Yurie’s use of the final sheet of paper was a nice way to end the farewell scene. I liked the previous episodes better, but this one was pretty good overall.

I didn’t have high expectations for this season. I was surprised by the number of quality series this new season. This one is without a doubt one of my favourites (among others such as Gun x Sword, Oku-sama wa Mahou Shoujo, and Suzuka). I really enjoy it for the fact that it’s a light-hearted series and we aren’t bombarded with fanservice every other scene. Like the previous episodes, the story was interesting and fun to watch for this episode. I just hope we’ll learn some more about the other characters. As much as I like Yurie, I would like to know who her friends are.
