Kasimasi 12 (Final)

I don’t really have any serious issues with this last episode. Hazumu finally makes a choice between Yasuna and Tomari. Regardless of which girl Hazumu picked one of them would end up getting hurt. With the way the series was going Hazumu really only had one sensible choice. Ideally I would have liked them to focus more on Yasuna and Hazumu, but overall I liked how the series finishes. They leave it up to the viewer to interpret the final scene. Of course the last scene also allows a possible sequel to the series. Currently I’m pretty indifferent to whether or not a sequel will come at some point in the future. I’m fine with them leaving the series here for good, but I would not be opposed to a second season either.

At the core this series is a simple love story. What sets this series apart from others is its unconventional twists. For me, one of the appeals of this series is its character designs. The girls don’t look like your usual supermodel high school girls which I thought was a nice change. The series also had some really nice BGM’s to compliment the key scenes. For a series like this I would have liked better dialogue. That’s not to say it was terrible, but I didn’t find it to be anything outstanding. After taking everything into account I think this is still an entertaining love story with enough unique twists thrown in to keep it fresh. If you’re looking for a love story that is different from the more recent bunch of harem series then “Kasimasi” may be just what you’re looking for.

Yasuna has lost the ability to see females now. I guess I should have suspected something like this based on the title, but I assumed it was supposed to be symbolic and not literal. We learn why Hitoshi came to Earth in the first place. It isn’t all that important anymore but at least it fits into the story. Unfortunately for Hazumu, he learns the hard way the consequences of being so indecisive. With the way the episode concludes it looks like Hazumu will end up choosing Yasuna. It really does seem like the only solution for now since it is unlikely for Hazumu not to have made a choice by the end of the series. Even though there appears to be only one right course of action, I still want to see how it all happens.

Just when Yasuna and Tomari decide to let things stay the way they are for Hazumu’s sake, things quickly fall apart. Something was bound to come up that would jeopardize their newfound friendship, but it happened sooner than I expected. Due to a misunderstanding, Tomari thinks Yasuna broke the promise she made to her. It was because she felt betrayed by Yasuna that gave Tomari the will to tell Hazumu how she really feels about him. Like I’ve said before, you can’t go wrong with yuri in this series. Hazumu was right, Tomari definately looks more feminine with her hair down. I think she looks pretty awesome with her hair down. Things are going to continue to be intense after Yasuna witnesses Tomari kissing Hazumu. It will be interesting to see how Hazumu reacts to this whole situation.

I like the philosophy in this series. If you can’t choose between two things, just take them both. We see Hazumu troubled by not being able to decide between Tomari and Yasuna. It’s a recurring theme until the end of the episode. If only things worked out so well in real life. I don’t think this episode stood above the rest, but it was still fun to watch. Once again I thought the humour was pretty decent. I just think Asuta’s fantasies are hilarious. We get to see them wear yukatas so that’s a big plus. I would have liked to see more actual scenes of them at the festival instead of the still-frames they used to cut costs. Watching this episode made me think about how they’re going to end the series. It seems like a harsh way to end the series if he ends up having to choose between Tomari and Yasuna. Especially when we find out in this episode that Hazumu wants things to stay the way they are for now.

It looked like this episode would be about Ayuki, but only some scenes were solely about her. It looks like Ayuki likes Hazumu as well and if we are to believe her she is not going to do anything about it. I see that as both a good thing and a bad thing for the series. On the plus side, it doesn’t make the relationships even more complicated than it already is with only a few more episodes to go. The bad thing is letting us know Ayuki’s feelings ends up becoming a waste of time since there won’t be any more development from here on out. Besides getting to know Ayuki a little better, we also see some development between Tomari and Yasuna. They are definately getting along better now and it doesn’t look to be just on the surface. They seem to genuinely have mutal respect for one another.

It was only a matter of time until they gave us a swimsuit episode. All that’s left is an onsen episode. More than anything else this episode was primarly focused on the humour aspect. Even Asuto’s scene where he wanted to hear how Hazumu felt about him was made into comedy. One of the most hilarious parts of this episode was when Hitoshi wore nothing but an apron with such a serious look on his face. Of course this wouldn’t be “Kasimasi” without a bit of drama. Tomari ends up informing Yasuna that she too likes Hazumu. If Yasuna and Tomari’s relationship wasn’t awkward enough it just got even more awkward.

We briefly get to see a new side to Yasuna. I would like to see them develop the main characters more so they don’t appear to be so one-dimensional. Tomari continues to try and work through her emotions in this episode and ends up hurting Hazumu in the process. At the end of the episode she finally accepts her feelings for Hazumu. I thought that was a nice scene between Hazumu and Tomari. It will be interesting to see how the relationship between Yasuna, Tomari, and Hazumu will end up working out now that we know how each of them feel.

In this episode we learn why Yasuna can’t deal with males. Well, not exactly. We hear from herself when the problem started, but we still don’t know the reason why she can’t see males. Besides that, we do learn why Yasuna rejected Hazumu in the first place and how she had liked him ever since seeing him. It was a nice bit of extra information. The end of this episode is the very first scene we saw in episode one. Now that we’re officially “caught up” to the present, it’s going to be fun to see how Tomari is going to deal with this unexpected turn of events.

To better observe interactions at school the alien becomes a teacher at Hazumu’s school. For the time being I’m not sure what sort of significance this will play in the grand scheme of things. Much of this episode was spent on seeing Tomari trying to figure out what to do about her feelings for Hazumu, as well as dealing with the fact that Yasuna has been spending so much time with Hazumu. Close to the end of the episode Yasuna confesses to Hazumu. Tomari calls out Hazumu’s name before Yasuna gets the chance to kiss Hazumu. Things are getting a lot more interesting with this love triangle developing. It’s nice that they introduced this love triangle so early on in the series. This will give the series lots of time to develop the relationship. I wouldn’t mind some sort of filler episode though. They can probably pull off entertaining filler episodes.

So the aliens are now staying at Hazumu’s place so they can observe humans. I was surprised when we found out Jumpu is actually the ship that killed Hazumu. Jumpu’s mannerisms were fun to watch, but if they do it excessively it may just become an annoyance. You gotta love Hazumu’s family. They easily welcome the aliens into their home. Hazumu’s dad may be disturbing with his intentions but I still find his scenes hilarious. Hazumu was able to set things straight (no pun intended) with Yasuna so the drama will probably begin soon. Well, the preview for the next episode already gives it away so let me rephrase that. The love triangle begins next week.
