Magikano 3

This episode was basically to figure out the reason for Maika’s brother complex. I thought it had some pretty funny scenes in it. A particular scene that comes to mind is when the girls went back 1 year in time. Yuri having to see herself act so “out of character” in front of the others must have been mortifying, but it was hysterical. This episode was definately better than last week’s episode. A problem I find the series may be running into is the fact we have multiple characters without much information about them. Hopefully they will get around to dedicating an episode to Maika’s sisters soon. They may not be the most interesting characters, but I would like to learn more about them to get more depths out of the series rather than just separating them by a few defining characteristics.

In this episode we get introduced to Yuri, the president of the student council. Yuri happens to like Haruo so we’ll probably see some tension in the relationship department down the line. As it turns out she can also use magic. At this point I don’t know if that will play any signifiance in the story at a later time. I was hoping to learn more about the sisters in this episode, but it looks like the next episode will be dedicated to at least one of them. This wasn’t as entertaining as episode 1, but this episode had its share of hilarity. Based on the first two episodes it is quite likely I will keep up with this series.

For those of you who have watched “Tenshi no Shippo” you will recognize the character designs. I wasn’t a fan of “Tenshi no Shippo” so I didn’t have high expectations for this series in terms of entertainment value. Overall the character designs seem to be better than “Tenshi no Shippo” as well. To my surprise I found a couple of the scenes to be quite enjoyable. The story itself may not be all that interesting, but I thought the humour in the first episode was pretty good. Sure it probably will not be a contender for “best new series of 2006″, but if they keep up with the goods they provided in the first episode then it won’t end up being a waste of my time.
