Oku-sama wa Mahou Shoujo 13 (Final)

Since this was the last episode I wish they didn’t cut corners. During Ureshiko’s transformation sequence you can still see that she has her ring even though she clearly is not supposed to have it. Another possible inconsistency I noticed was when Tatsumi and Ureshiko kissed her powers didn’t disappear on the spot. Maybe the effect takes some time to kick in, I just always assumed the effect was almost instantaneous. Other than that, I enjoyed watching the final episode. The outcome of it all was highly predictable. I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing in this case. It’s pretty much the only ending that could have happened if it was to end on a happy note.

The premise of the story was pretty interesting in my opinion. The main characters were fairly well-developed in the span of 13 episodes. This isn’t something that will keep you on the edge of your seat. On the other hand, this is a good series to watch when you just want to sit back, relax, and not waste your time. Although the animation quality isn’t consistent throughout the entires series, overall it’s pretty decent. I personally liked the character designs for the series. My final verdict, this is a series that is worth checking out for its unique story and the characters.

So this is the second to last episode. We see that Sayaka really is still just a child. She easily falls into the hands of her supporters. When they put her under their spell they reminded me of the kids from “Village of the Damned”. Then there’s Tatsumi who started to hallucinate. It looks like these two are pretty hopeless without Ureshiko. While in prison Ureshiko meets her mother. I didn’t think the voice fit the character very well. The voice sounded a bit too old. We’re left with Ureshiko making it back to Wonderland and Sayaka on the verge of creating a new Wonderland.

Ah, the episode before the finale. The BGM’s were pretty good in this episode. I felt they fit the scenes quite well. Unfortunately I can’t say that about the animation quality. Although it wasn’t as bad as some of the previous episodes, there were some scenes where the characters looked awkward. We get to see how Tamotsu and Ureshiko met, but I think that scene was kind of unnecessary for the story’s progression. Ureshiko left her ring to Sayaka for safe keeping, but we can all pretty much assume it won’t be going back to Ureshiko. There’s pretty much only one suitable ending for this series and I think there’s a pretty high chance that’s the ending we’ll get.

It took Ureshiko 10 episodes, but she finally revealed her identity to Tatsumi and even Tamotsu at the end. Although it was only briefly, we got to see a bunch of other mahou shoujos. This was one of the few times where Sayaka was helpful for the duration of the entire episode. It seems like Ureshiko has made up her mind to fulfill her own desires before she hands over her ring to Sayaka. If you really think about it, she may not have had any conflict with Tamotsu if she had revealed her identity to him after her marriage. In the end it’s all for the better of course, now that we know Tamotsu is an ass.

Wow, with the way the episode played out I would have guessed this was the episode right before the final one if I didn’t know this was a 13 episode series. Props to Tatsumi for finally figuring out his feelings and actually doing something about it. We see Ureshiko’s predecessor in this episode as well. It seemed kind of late to introduce another character, but she probably won’t play a big part with the amount of time left. Just when we think Ureshiko was finally able to give up her guardianship, something comes up. At least now she won’t have to deal with that bastard Tamotsu anymore.

The first part of this episode felt a little slow. Although the second half made up for the first half. My main complaint with this episode is the big drop in animation quality. They seem to be getting sloppy with all of the characters. One of the things that made this series good were the good character designs. Anyways, I’d say this episode is primarily about Yuki aka Valentine. Her story and whatnot was unexpected to say the least. We really didn’t know much about her up until this episode. The girl Tamotsu is with right now is a total bitch. We do learn a few things about her, but pretty much all that matters is she’s a bitch. Poor Tatsumi has to put up with Tamotsu AND this bitch. Did I mention she is a bitch?

The story’s finally progressing. We get a brief flashback to Ureshiko’s wedding. I can’t say that I really like that look cause of her pink hair. It just looks really out of place. I didn’t despise Tamotsu a whole lot before this episode since Ureshiko never gave him a reason for not allowing him to kiss her. But after his scene in this episode, he’s officially an uber prick. I was thinking Tatsumi had feelings for Ureshiko, but it looks like his inner pedophilia has awoken. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next.

Umeken~ Mambo~! This episode was a little…out of the ordinary. Everything up towards the last scene was what we’d expect, but the whole mambo sequence was kind of unexpected. It was funny to see them sing and dance, but for some reason the character animations became extremly ugly. I found it kind of strange Tatsumi stopped asking about the flying fan. If you see appliances flying on their own it would only be normal to ask questions. Now it seems that Ureshiko may be starting to feel something for Tatsumi. It’ll probably come to Tatsumi having to choose between Ureshiko and the older Sayaka or Sayaka finding out Tatsumi feels nothing for her. I think the choice is simple. Tatsumi can either be smart and go with the loveable Ureshiko or he can be a pedophile.

The key part of this episode has to be seeing an older version of Sayaka. Although I don’t think the pigtails really suit her, it was a nice change. Now if only she’d stay in that form for the rest of the series. (*´д`*) The story is still moving pretty slowly. It’ll probably end up like those other 12-13 episode series where they try to get the main plot all wrapped up in 3 episodes. Whether that will be a good or bad thing, that all depends on how they present it. This wasn’t the best episode thus far, but it was still quite enjoyable.

It looks like Sayaka has feelings for Tatsumi. For once I thought she was right when she was confronted by Ureshiko. Ureshiko will probably pass on the guardianship to Sayaka by the end of the series. I can’t help but hate Tamotsu and feel sorry for Ureshiko after watching this episode. Here we have Ureshiko who’s making sacrifices to watch over Wonderland and Tamotsu who’s just a prick. We get to see a flashback of Ureshiko and her mother, I wonder if we’ll find out what happened to her mother. I found this to be another good episode, just like all the previous ones.
