Shakugan no SHANA 14

We get a look into Shana’s past in this episode. All the characters we see are new so I’m glad they didn’t try and cram everything into one episode. I liked this week’s eyecatch. I thought it was pretty cute to see Shana and Yukari wearing kimonos while giving one another dirty looks. There wasn’t that much going on in this episode until we got closer to the end. I do hope they wrap the flashback up next week or the week after though. There’s still quite a bit of story left in terms of the main plot so I would like to see them to get on with it.

Because it didn’t air last week it took me a minute to recall what happened in the previous episode. Once it all came to me the rest of the episode was pretty enjoyable. I wasn’t expecting Tiriel and Sorato to die in this episode. They made them out to appear so powerful but in the end they get defeated pretty easily. We continue to see Yuuji and Shana’s relationship slowly building. When Shana said she was going to give Yuuji a reward for his help, all the indicators were pointing to a kiss. Shana ends up giving him one of her melon breads as his reward, which I thought was pretty hilarious.

I assumed that Ike liked Kazumi based on his actions from previous episodes. After this episode it seems like that really is the case. Kazumi on the other hand still likes Yuuji and tells Shana that she is going to confess to him. This is the first time we get to hear from Shana how she really feels about Yuuji. Although she didn’t get to say “love” before she gets interrupted, taking into account her other lines and body language there’s no denying her feelings for Yuuji. We also get a taste of what Sorato and Tyriel are capable of. They end up capturing Shana with ease. I’m looking forward to the next episode, but unfortunately the series is taking a one week break. The next episode will air on January 4th.

This week Shana learns what a kiss is. Once Chigusa explains it in a way Shana would udnerstand, it was funny to see her reaction towards kissing change. Afterwards she kept saying she’ll never do it with Yuuji, which I thought was quite hilarious since Yuuji has no idea what she’s talking about. Tyriel and Sorato come across Margery late in the episode. Based on their encounter you get an idea of just how strong they are. Margery knows she doesn’t stand a chance against them. Since she’s still seems to be part of the story it’s probably just a matter of time before Margery helps Shana.

The episode was going well until the last scene. I was happy to see two new characters show up since it would most likely signify a new story arc. It was fine and all until they started “kissing”. Now you may be wondering why that bothered me so much. I forgot to mention they’re brother and sister. At first I thought it was just the girl’s way of referring to a close friend of hers who happens to be an older male. The camera shifts to a man in a suit who comments on their questionable action when they’re siblings. Let’s just hope we don’t get anymore scenes like that.

This is the first filler episode of the series. It’s definately a nice break from the end of the first part of the series. There were a few scenes which I thought were pretty funny. For instance, the scene where they come out showing their swimsuits one at a time was hilarious. Seeing Shana show what definately looks like jealousy was quite entertaining. If future filler episodes will be this fun to watch I wouldn’t mind more of them.

This episode went by pretty quickly for me. I guess it just means I enjoyed it a fair bit. Just by having Yuuji around, Shana is a lot more powerful than we’ve ever seen her. Whether or not it’s because of a currently unknown reason or something cheesy like love is still up in the air. Margery was completely defeated by Shana so she probably won’t cause anymore trouble for her. My guess is she will end up helping Shana at some point in the series. I personally liked Margery’s last scene in this episode. You don’t see her eyes but you see tears get blown into the wind, I thought that was nicely done.

Yuuji is now determined to fight alongside Shana. Since he has to train under Shana from scratch, I do wonder if he’s going to get strong at all. We get a glimpse of who Margery is really after. It’s probably going to play a big part in the story later on in the series. After the last episode you can see Shana treat Yuuji pretty differently now. She’s slowly changing and it’s definately making her more likeable.

I didn’t expect Friagne to die so early in the series. They do give us an excuse of how he seemed so weak in the end, making it just a poorly planned operation that lead to his demise. I thought it was kind of strage to have Shana find a random piece of broken glass in front of her to throw at Friagne. If memory serves right there was no sign of glass before that scene. Since the “crisis” is now over, they’ll have to move onto something new now. I don’t have a clue as to what it’ll be about this time so hopefully it’ll be good. On another note, it looks like the relationship between Shana and Yuuji is getting better now.

Little by little things are starting to come together. Yuuji encounters Shikabane who is apparently being chased by Margery. We also find out from Shikabane what Friagne plans on doing. Although we’re starting to get bits of information here and there, there is still plenty of mystery to keep us wondering. It’s pretty obvious now that Kazumi has feelings for Yuuji. We’ll probably get some drama in that department once Shana starts understanding her emotions.
