Kyou Kara Maou (Special)

February 25th, 2006 by Gunlex

In retrospect, I should have reviewed this series on a weekly basis even though by the time I started this site it was already past episode 40. If you want an example of an awesome finale, this is it. There wasn’t anything that was really unexpected or anything in this last episode, but that’s the way it should be for this series. They played an instrumental version of the opening song for one scene which I thought was fitting. It’s kind of sad that this is the end of the series. Maybe down the line they will have a new season, but that seems unlikely at this point. With the ending the way it is I’m completely satisfied with how they wrapped things up.

This is one of those series that should not be missed. For me, this has definately become one of my all-time favourites. The series has great characters and nice art to go with it. The opening song hasn’t changed since episode 1. I would have liked at least one new opening since this was a 78 episode series. That’s really the only issue I had with this series. I loved everything else in the series. Before watching this series it looked like it was geared towards the shounen-ai fans. There’s nothing wrong with that of course, it’s just not something I have any interest in. Once I gave this series a chance I was hooked. Sure there are those yaoi moments every so often, but it’s really there just for the comedy factor. “Kyou Kara Maou” has everything from episodes that are seemingly pointless to just make you laugh to episodes that are filled with emotion. This series doesn’t require you to really sit and think about controvesial issues. It’s just a great series for you to relax and enjoy pure entertainment. The contents of this series is suitable for pretty much people of all ages. If you haven’t watched “Kyou Kara Maou” yet, I HIGHLY recommend you give this series a try.

Rozen Maiden: träumend (Special Review)

January 26th, 2006 by Gunlex

This review is the first out of a series of special reviews I will be doing over time. Basically these will be one-shot reviews on entire series. In other words, these special reviews are for series I should have reviewed normally.

Anyone who watched this series knows this is the second season of “Rozen Maiden”. Personally, I enjoyed the second season a lot more than the first season. In terms of music, I’m glad they kept some of the BGMs from the first season because I thought it had exceptional BGMs. A couple of the new BGMs were good too. I found the humour in season two to be better. The humour was definately cuter than the first season. They were able to incorporate drama pretty nicely too. One of the best episodes this season was without a doubt episode 10. Hinaichigo’s final scene was done really well in my opinion.

As for the last episode I thought it had both good and bad parts. I think the ending could have been better than it was. It seems quite likely there will be a third season eventually. I haven’t read any confirmation that season three is already being planned, but season two’s ending would be a horrible way to end the entire series. I thoroughly enjoyed the fight between Shinku and Barasuishou. It was pretty cool seeing them use the powers of the other dolls. Too bad it was such a short scene. Many of the questions from the first episode of this season were answered in this episode, but there are still a few unresolved issues. I can only hope they will release a third season. This is one of the series I would recommend to most people. It pretty much has something for everyone.
