Suzuka 16

Just leave it up to Yamato to screw things up so quickly. At least he did the right thing by apologizing to Honoka. There really isn’t anything wrong with Honoka. If Suzuka wasn’t the main character I would have easily given all my support to Honoka. Probably in a couple of weeks we’ll see the relationship between Yamato and Honoka end. It seems that Yamato demonstrating how he wanted to ask a girl out during middle school had a big impact on Suzuka.

Things weren’t all that interesting in this episode until the last scene with Suzuka and Yamato. Suzuka and Yamato have no money so they end up staying at Yamato’s place, where we get to meet his family. We probably won’t be seeing them much in this series, if at all, anymore. It was only a fairly short scene where we see them together. The key part of this episode was in the end when Yamato showed Suzuka how he wanted to confess to another girl in junior high. What made this episode all worthwhile was seeing Suzuka’s reaction to it.

I was expecting to see two things in this episode. One of them being Suzuka’s reaction to Yamato going out with Honoka. The other was Yamato spending time with Honoka. We get to see Suzuka take the news quite well considering it was so sudden, at least on the outside. We don’t hear her inner thoughts so at this point we can only make assumptions. She was her usual self around Yamato. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see Yamato spend much time with Honoka in this episode. It doesn’t look like that will happen anytime soon either now that Suzuka and Yamato were left behind in Hiroshima.

As happy as I am for Honoka, it’s going to turn out ugly for her. Since Yamato will most likely end up with Suzuka by the end of the series, there’s going to be a point where Honoka will have her heart broken. Unless the breakup happens another way. Although it seems unlikely the outcome of the breakup will end up differently. I wonder how Honoka is going to respond if and when Yamato explains his reason for going out with her. It’s going to be interesting to see Suzuka’s reaction after she finds out about Honoka and Yamato.

The long awaited swimsuit episode! I have to say I’m kind of disappointed in the fact that the pool scene was so short. The majority of the episode was pretty much just mediocre. Luckily I felt that the final scene in this episode made up for the rest of it. I thought Yamato would have been his usual self and blurted out something really stupid that would make things worse. I was surprised to see him act cool instead. We now have decent evidence that Suzuka likes Yamato. All she’s missing now is the ability to accept her feelings for him. It looks like Honoka will confess before Suzuka will, so it should be interesting to see what happens.

Even though part of what Suzuka said to Arima was understandable, I think she went too far. From time to time she acts like a bitch. I guess it somewhat makes her a more “believable” character. She is pretty fitting for Yamato at times like these. A selfish, insensitive guy with a stubborn, angry girl is a great combination. Somehow I couldn’t see the track and field posse as intimidating when they were trying to get Suzuka to apologize. That was the longest 100m track I’ve ever seen. Although Yamato couldn’t beat Arima, his exit line was great.

Yamato actually acted appropirately in the first part of the episode. Unfortunately he managed to lower his respectability in the second half. I was surprised Yamato decided to do the right thing and leave Suzuka alone when her sister brought him to her. I didn’t think Yamato would be such a selfish person, he keeps on surprising me every episode. A decent portion of this episode was strictly Suzuka’s flashback about Kazuki. At first I was expecting Suzuka and Kazuki’s relationship to be based on unrequited love. The truth about Kazuki took me by surprise.

A dagger through the heart. As annoying as Yamato can be at times, I think Suzuka went a little overboard this time. Although it ultimately just adds to and prolongs the story. We find out that Miki, if she really is being honest, is starting to feel something for Yamato as well. So now there is possibly a new rival. I don’t really think I want to see that develop much further or else it’d feel like the countless other series that have a similar theme. Then again, it may just spice things up considering having Yamato chase Suzuka for the rest of the series while she keeps rejecting him will get old.

I don’t have a whole lot to say about this episode. It’s not a bad episode, but I don’t have that much to comment on it. Suzuka refuses to compliment Yamato’s effort during track practice. We also get to meet Miki, a fellow track member. Looking at her reminds me of Satsuki from “Ichigo 100%”. As far as their personality goes, luckily they don’t seem all that similar in that regard. My will to root for Suzuka and Yamato is slowly disappearing from seeing Suzuka’s stubborness and Honoka’s determination. Yamato still sounds annoying from time to time, but it didn’t seem as bad in this episode.

I’m starting to lose respect for Yamato. In the previous episode he was good in my books. Now with the stuff he does and says in this episode just throws him down a few notches. When he says he wants to join the track team so he can be with Suzuka more, it just made me shake my head in disappointment. I found the art to be lacking again. There were many scenes where the characters looked out of proportion. As an aside, I hope they decide to change the opening and ending songs after episode 13.
