Tsubasa Chronicle 26 (Final)

October 15th, 2005 by Gunlex

Yet another series wraps up. I actually thought this episode was a pretty suitable ending for the series. Taking into consideration how many questions are still left unanswered, this was the kind of ending you’d expect. With that said, I enjoyed watching this episode. It was one of the better episodes of the series. This episode was not in the manga so it was nice to see some original work. The second season starts next April so we’ll have to wait until then to see more.

In terms of the anime, this is by far not one of CLAMP’s best series. The choice of music is one of the flaws of this series. I think using Yuki Kajiura for this series was a mistake. Although a few BGM’s were good, overall someone else would have been better suited. If you liked this series, I would definately suggest you read the manga as well. If you haven’t seen this series but enjoy CLAMP’s work, then skip the anime and read the manga instead.

We find out what Seishiro’s motive for coming to this world is. There’s also another flashback where we see how Syaoran met Seishiro. One thing I don’t remember seeing in the manga was Mokona getting ready to defend Sakura from Seishiro. From watching this episode you can get an idea about the truth of this world.

This was a pretty slow-paced episode. It didn’t stray from the manga like it did last week. Not a whole lot went on in this episode until the end. We learn that the hooded-figure is Seishirou from X. It’s always nice to see more cameos. Seems like they will reveal at least part of the connection between Syaoran and Seishirou in the next episode.

They strayed away from the manga for a good part of this episode. I think it was a good move on their part. Without the changes we wouldn’t have been able to hear Yui Makino’s version of “you are my love”. There appeared to be extra Mokona scenes than usual so that gets some bonus points as well. At the current rate, it looks like the series will end after they’re ready to leave this world. Since so much of the unanswered questions will still be left unanswered, I think it’s quite possible there will eventually be a second season.

I noticed they changed some things from the manga. They’re not drastic changes so I don’t think it’ll affect the overall story in any way. At this rate it’ll probably be at least another 2 to 3 episodes before they figure out the truth about this current world. Syaoran and the others meet Souma and Ryu-oh in this episode. I don’t think using Minagawa Junko for Ryu-oh was the best choice, but it wasn’t a horrible mismatch or anything like that. To prevent spoiling anymore than necessary, I will refrain from commenting on the hooded figure.

It has been a couple of weeks since the previous episode. Luckily this episode still takes place in the “Sakura world”. I found this to be another good episode just like the previous one. If they can keep up with this quality for the remaining 9 episodes that would be quite nice. It looks like Sakura can’t remember her past with Syaoran even if she tried. Following the usual trend, it should take them a few more episodes before they leave this current world. From the looks of it the series won’t end and we’ll be left with an open-ended last episode. If the series does well enough I guess it’ll give them enough room to work on a season 2.

This episode caught me by surprise. I wasn’t expecting something like this from what we’ve been getting for the last few months. This was probably my favourite episode since the first one. We get to see Sakura in a maid outfit, which was quite nice. Chances are we’ll get to see more of her in that outfit in the next episode. The person showing Syaoran and crew the ropes of this world looks like Blanche from Angelic Layer. There’s a crucial development this week (possibly). Whether or not they will make use of this development in future episodes or not, I haven’t the slighest idea. Apparently Syaoran can’t see out of his right eye. I think it makes him a more likeable character. Even with a handicap he’s still determined to help Sakura without hesitation. At the end of the episode we also get to see Inuki, Yuzuriha, and Kusanagi from X TV. Hopefully they can keep this level of entertainment value for the rest of the episodes.

Yet another filler episode. I don’t know how they’re going to finish the story in 26 episodes. We still don’t know anything about the real enemies in the series. Nonetheless this episode itself wasn’t bad. I found myself enjoying the story in this one. With only 10 episodes left, they’re probably going to leave the ending really open-ended for a possible season 2 or somehow rush it all.

I thought the last few episodes have been quite boring. They spend so much time dealing with the story in the respective worlds they’re in that we barely know anything about the people who have their eyes on the group. Another problem I have with this series is Sakura is so helpless. I can handle some “damsel in distress” scenes, but this is just too much. I can only hope it’ll get better over the next few episodes.

It looks like they’re shortening the number of episodes it takes them to retrieve a feather. I guess they realized with only 12 more episodes to go, they had to hurry things up. I didn’t think this episode was all that entertaining. The pace the series moves at still seems really slow. The next episode should be better though.
