Victorian Romance Emma 12 - Final

June 20th, 2005 by Gunlex

Gunlex: The final episode of the series. Depending on how you view it, it can be either a good ending or a bad ending. After thinking it through, I think it was a very good ending. I can see how other people may think differently though. All of us wanted to see Emma and William together. In the end they just couldn’t overcome what society expects. The parting of ways was definately a moment to remember. William was thinking how their relationship would affect Emma the entire time, now I have a better opinion of him. The harp version of “Silhouette of a Breeze” they used in this episode was pretty nice. It fit the atmosphere of moment quite well.

I think the end can be viewed in two ways based on what the lily of the valley represents. One way I think it can be interpreted is as time goes on they will settle down and find happiness separately. The other interpretation is William will end up pursuing Emma. Although the latter doesn’t sound very fitting. It’s up to the viewer to decide what happens. Personally, I see the final scene as the last time they see each other. They each move on with their lives on separate paths. But by adding the lily of the valley in the end, we are reassured they will end up happy in their own way. I think this was a very suitable ending for the series.

My overall verdict of the series? Any fan of a good love story (albeit it’s not your conventional ending of a love story) should check it out. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in seeing a series that isn’t all about blood, mechs, and big-breasted school girls.

Gunlex: The main premise of this episode is Emma’s past. After seeing this episode, it makes me want to root for Emma even more. You can’t help but feel sorry for Emma after all she has gone through. It looks like next week is a recap episode. I didn’t expect this series to have a recap episode. I want the soundtrack for the opening theme.

Gunlex: So Emma has made up her mind to move back to her home town, if it still there. Getting everyone to accept Emma and William’s relationship will be tougher than I had first thought. I didn’t think William would give up on chasing Emma so quickly though, some determination that is.

Gunlex: I hate to say it, but not much happened in this episode. We see Emma try to begin moving on with her life and not being very successful at it. Looking at the portions of food they had just reminds me of how big portion sizes are these days. No wonder why Americans are so fat.

Gunlex: Thanks to Hakkim, William’s siblings now know about Emma. Instead of just having to try and change his father’s mind, William has to deal with his siblings too. Kelly Stoner’s death came sooner than I expected. It’s now up to Al to support Emma until (we hope) she ends up happily with William.

Gunlex: The episode many of us have been waiting for. At least for those of us who are rooting for William and Emma. Now we’ll just have to wait and see how William and Emma will try and overcome the social norms and pressure of the time.
